NEW DELHI: Even though the Dera Sacha Sauda tendered an apology, addressed to 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh, on Sunday — the deadline set by the Akal Takht for the Dera to vacate its premises in Punjab — the state continued to be in the throes of uncertainty. Security forces, including police personnel and para-military companies, have been put on high alert in the state and adjoining regions to prevent any flare-up.

Police say Harpal Singh, 38, of Warsaw died in the shooting at the gas station. He was found on the sidewalk at the rear of the station, near a laundry entrance. Police say he had numerous gunshot wounds. Singh was the manager of the family owned business.
